The Hottest Garden Trends This 2017
Why not make the most of your garden this 2017 whether you want to grow your own veggies, dine al fresco or enjoy the health-giving benefits of the beautiful outdoors. From embracing small places to exploring new plants, here we have some of the hottest garden trends that are shaping the year ahead.
Big & Beautiful
This 2017, big, bright and bold blooms and plants are taking over. Look out for large, soft and blowsy flowers, such as Paeonia lactiflora ‘Sarah Bernhardt’ and bright tulips in ranges of vivid colours.
The big designers are beginning to take a huge renewed interest in more natural materials and less geometric styles. Designer Julie Blakeslee at Big Red Sun in Austin, Texas, says, “Rather than clean and modern, clients are asking for a more old-fashioned, more DIY look in their gardens.” From railway ties, free-form decks and swing seating, this is definitely one you should be exploring.
The ever-growing popular Swedish interior trends (hygge and lagom), is now taking over the great outdoors. Filled with gorgeous flaming fire pits and warm, furry blankets, I know where I will want to be sitting this evening!
Living walls have been around for a while, but 2017 will likely see a lot more vertical gardening, especially where space is limited. There are so many benefits of building your own vertical garden such as creating habitats for insects, reducing noise pollution and improving your garden air quality.
For all those people out there that would prefer to stay indoors, this is a great way to combine the two. Bright block colours are a great way to create the feel of an outdoor ‘room’ and is very inexpensive to do!
Home Grown Veggies
Last year, the number of vegans was reported to have risen by 360% in 10 years, so in a nutshell, growing your own veggies is something that you should definitely be jumping on board with. As well as providing a lovely-looking area in your garden, you will also be able to benefit from all the healthy and organic produce.
