If, like us, you occasionally want to clean up your eating habits a bit, then read on. As we’ve scoured our book shelves for the most appealing healthy smoothie recipes that are easy to follow, don’t have ridiculously hard to get ingredients and don’t cost the earth.

These recipes mix and match these ingredients. Most of the fruit should be prepped and frozen ahead of making the smoothies – it adds more texture. Chia seeds are best if soaked overnight in the fridge, then used in the smoothie.
Banana and Almond Smoothie
Serves 2, prep time: 5 mins, freezing time 2 hours (from Clean Eating, £3)
Ingredients: 2 sliced bananas; 500ml/17.5 fl oz almond milk; 1 tbsp runny honey
- Spread the banana slices out on a baking tray and freeze for at least 2 hours (or, even easier, overnight). They can then be stored in a freezer bag for later or used straight away.
- Put the frozen banana in a liquidiser with the almond milk and honey and blend until very smooth.
- Pour into two glasses and serve immediately.
Top Smoothie Tips
For a really basic smoothie recipe, pour the fruit and liquids into the blender/liquidiser first, ice goes in last.
Start slow and build up to a whizz when the mixture starts to get smoother.
Want some texture? You can add nuts or fruit or shredded coconut to the top.
Want thicker smoothies? Freeze fruit first (you can do this easily by slicing and freezing for 2 hours before blending).
Healthy Mango Lassi
Ingredients: 1/2 cup plain low fat yoghurt, 1/2 ripe mango, 1 tsp honey, ice cubes optional.
Ingredients: 1/2 sliced banana, 1/2 diced mango, 1/3 cup coconut milk, 1 lime (zested and juiced), pinch of ground cardamom, 3 ice cubes
Pina Colada (ish)
Ingredients: 1/2 cup almond milk, 1/2 cup coconut water, 1/2 cup frozen pineapple, 1 tsp honey, 1 tbsp shredded coconut, 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Ingredients: 1/2 cup frozen strawberries, 1/2 cup frozen banana, 1/2 cup greek yoghurt, 1 tbsp chia seeds, 1/2 cup almond milk, splash vanilla extract
Peachy Oat Smoothie
Ingredients: 1 peach, 2 cups spinach, 2 tbsp chia seeds, 1/2 frozen banana, 1/2 orange, 1/4 cup plain yoghurt, 1 date (optional)
